Cute Collections: Brooches
I am a little bit partial to brooches. I love how you can wear something very conservative and then have a little splash of colour that says “Hi there!” to passers by.
I know the little owl brooch came from the super talented Lauren Carney, but I have no idea where my other little collector’s items came from. If you are one of these fabulous artists let me know!

Cute Collections: Pom Poms
Being a person who is pretty much sucked in by any sort of colour, pom poms certainly catch my eye.
I found these neon pom poms at a little craft store many years ago (sadly, that shop is now shut down) and I haven’t used them for any projects yet. I think I just like to look at them from time to time and say a silent “Holy moly, check out that colour!” in my mind.
Perhaps I could use them for a garland like these.
Cute Collections: Vintage 80′s Wallets
Yes, I was a child of the 80′s and I must say I am still very proud of it!
Apart from knitting legwarmers for my barbies with my sister (thanks to our love of Fame – oh Coco I adored you!) – I seem to also have collected a few wallets. I think this may have revealed to me where my love of cute characters has come from!
My Aunty bought the Little Twin Stars wallet back from one of her trips to Japan and I think I received the Strawberry Shortcake wallet for a birthday. I can’t remember where the Hello Kitty one comes from, but it seems right that I represented all the major fads of the 80′s.
I wonder how many of these wallets lie dormant in women’s closets, remembering their glory days with $1.00 notes instead of coins and paper cheques instead of plastic cards?
Maybe I will keep these safe – just in case they come back into fashion again.
Cute Collections: Vintage Cotton Spools
Somewhere along the line I have managed to sneak a few of mum’s cotton spools into my own collection. Mum used to do a lot of sewing when we were kids. We had all sorts of cute outfits and she even sewed my Snoopy a whole wardrobe as well.
Sewing is the one thing mum taught me that I really hold precious now I am older. It is one of those funny hobbies that can be so relaxing and so annoying at that same time (broken thread right before you finish a piece anyone?).
I love these colours together. Bright, brighter and then some!
Cotton spools are one of those items that sit around my studio desk even when I am not sewing. I think they remind me of many happy hours of sewing when I was younger. Just me and mum.
Cute Collections: Art Deco Embellishments
I really love sewing, but I don’t get much time to indulge my passion for fabric, cotton and cute little sequins like these.
All of these little art deco inspired sequins have been sitting in my sewing cupboard for some time, just dying to be sewn onto some glamorous evening gown or some fancy fashion accessories.
My favourite is the beautiful blue fan at the top. And I’m a little bit partial to the gold leaf below it as well. Very sweet!
Maybe this weekend I will have some time to give them a new home, out of the dark cupboard and into the spotlight where they belong…
Cute Collections: Crotcheted family
My dad came around to visit me this week with some lovely memories from my childhood. I have no idea where these little crocheted people come from, but there is a mother, father and a crazy haired little son just full of cuteness!
