Doodles & Drawings: Be Happy Now

It was on those days, when the toast had burnt in the morning, she had missed the bus to work, the heel on her brand new pretty patent shoes had broken…it was those days when she would reach into the memory box at the end of her bed and hold aloft a little sign that said “Be Happy Now”.

And suddenly, the sun would shine, she felt just so fine and she knew it that even when disaster struck, when she felt lost in a rut – it would always be a wonderful day…

    Doodles & Drawings: Collage {Bee Mine}

    Doodles & Drawings: Bee Mine

Collage can be very, very addictive.

You need to cut. And paste. And layer. And layer again.

Sometimes you add too much. Or too little.

But there always seems to be a moment when everything fits and it’s just right.

Who would have thought a bee in a top hat could be such a lovely thing.

Doodles & Drawings: A lost little cloud

      52 Week Project #6

      Way up in the sky.

Lost between the earth, and all that could fly.

      He floated.

It was a little colder up here.

      But he didn’t mind.

He knew that sometime soon, the stars and the moon, would befriend him.

And even though he might no longer be around.

There would be dreams up here to be found.

And the little birds would not surely forget him.

[My submission for the Uppercase callout for work that contained clouds].

        Sweet Stationary: Save the Date

        52 Week Project #5

In case you missed the news, we are very happily in need of some “Save the Dates” and so here is a sneak peek of one of my ideas (Oh my goodness, I have too many!).

My friend suggested I make us look a little bit happier so if we use this one I will add that to the edit I think!

I am so surprised at how hard it is to draw something for your own project and my biggest difficulty is narrowing down my ideas.

Oh internet, sometimes you have too much inspiration!

            Doodles & Drawings: Vintage Collage

52 Week Project #3: Vintage Collage

I have been watching far too much Downton Abbey this week, instead of concentrating on illustrating!

This week’s project therefore had to have some vintage lady inspiration attached to it.

For this illustration I created a very simple chevron pattern in Illustrator, transferred it to Photoshop and worked some texture magic on it and then cut out my little lady from a lovely image I found here and fancied her up with some transparent shapes.

Our next project is going to be our February desktop wallpaper (with a homage to Valentines day of course!).

Pop back in later in the week for a sneak peek and your free download!

Sweet Stationery: Swan Engagement Invite & Save the Date

              Joel-And-Karissa-Save-the-Date

It’s pretty cool when you get to design something for two of your besties.

This super cute swan invite was commissioned by this super cute couple who just also happen to be two of my oldest friends.

I have to say I am pretty excited about this wedding as not only did I introduce them, but I am going to be by Karissa’s side all day as her maid of honour as well (I get a bit of a tear in my eye as I write that!).

Joel proposed to Karissa on a swan paddle boat at Mt Fuji so they wanted a swan save the date to reflect that special moment. On the back they had the story of how they became engaged. They cut out all the shapes themselves which I can only imagine must have taken ages, and then wrapped each with a little feather.

              So gorgeous!

PS. Pete and I met via Joel’s band as well, so they paid me back the favour!

Doodles & Drawings: The Blue Flying Fox

                Blue Flying Fox

Way above the clouds on a journey to the stars is a little blue fox.

With a big red balloon and the promise of a sunny day, he floats languidly into the endless blue…

You can purchase this little fox and his friends here.

                  Doodles & Drawings: Collage {Plenty More Fish in the Sea}

                  Collage: PlentyMoreFishinTheSea

I had a lovely chat with my friend this afternoon and while going over in great detail all the ins and outs of our weeks I drew a little collage.

There is something very relaxing about mixing shapes and colours and shades and media.

                  Happy weekend everyone!

Doodles & Drawings: Be thankful for…

                    Be thankful for...

I know a lot of our Northern Hemisphere friends will be celebrating Thanksgiving next week.

While it is not a celebration we have down here in the South, it does get me thinking about what I am thankful for.

In two weeks, when Pete and I are tracing the curvature of the earth in our little plane all the way up to the Arctic Circle, I think we are going to be thankful for all of the above when we get there.

What are you thankful for this year?
