DIY Project #12: Sparkle Me Pretty Hair Clips
Oh glitter, you are my friend!
I saw some glitter clips online at Ban Do recently (I looove that shop!), and while pondering over breakfast yesterday morning how I could possibly wait for an international order to arrive when I wanted to wear them that day, I decided to make my own from supplies in my craft cupboard (don’t worry lovely Ban Do girls, I am ordering yours too – you can’t have a enough glitter clips right?).
First up – some very simple materials are required:
MATERIALS // CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR EASY PRODUCT SOURCING
- Mod Podge or equivalent craft glue
- Paint brush
- Micro fine glitter (I have ones like these)
- Blank metal hair clips with a thick topside
- Clear varnish spray
Now for the steps! I made mine while eating my oats yesterday morning (I swear it takes 5 minutes).
STEP 01 // GLUING YOUR CLIP
This is probably pretty obvious, however, I would recommend keeping that glitter well away at this point (I know it’s tempting to tip it out, it’s all sparkly!)
STEP 02 // GLITTERIZE!
The easiest way of doing this is to just tip the glitter over the clip and then tap the glitter a few times to get rid of the excess glitter.
STEP 03 // VARNISH
I didn’t really think about this until I wore one of the clips in my hair later in the morning and realised I had glitter in my hair afterward which made my hair look like I had just come home from a New Year’s Eve party.
Spray your clips lightly with one or two coats of clear varnish to finish.
Now this looks much better!
Let them dry and then sparkle and twinkle all the way to the grocery shop!

I love this idea! Can’t wait to bust out my glitter and try it!
Great idea. Thank u
These are so pretty! I love the colours you chose, and that you shared your “oops” moment too!
What varnish do you use to seal it? Is it also a Mod Podge product?
Hi Alisha,
I just used Mod Podge to cover them with – wait until they are dry though before you do that
