Font Friday #8: Grutch Shaded

Font Friday

Steeve Gruson sure knows how to shade a font.

This week’s #FontFriday is all about grunge and for a change we’ve moved away from all the pretty! But that’s okay. We can’t be all cute all of the time.

I did some research to find out who this shady character is, but Steeve was a little bit elusive.

We’ll just have to enjoy all of his other fonts too instead.

You can download this lovely textured font called Grutch Shaded here.

Font Friday #6: Dawning of a new day

    FontFridayDawningofaNewDay

This beautiful font is from Kimberly Geswein, a handwriting font making machine!

I am sure her fonts have been featured before by the gals at #FontFriday, but I wanted to share one of my favourites from this amazing font artist anyway.

Kimberly has an absolute plethora of handwritten fonts (she has been making them since 2006) and I would love her to show me how!

I thought Dawning of a New Day was perfect for a little updated picture using one of my favourite cats. I just know I am going to be downloading a lot more of Kimberly’s fonts (in fact I just downloaded this one which will be perfect for some blog posts I have in mind).

You can collect your Kimberley Geswein font for free here.

      Font Friday #5: Tattoo Ink

      FontFridayTattoInk

      Ahoy me maties!

Vera is ready and waiting to fill in all the long hours at sea making pretty garlands of anchors and boats.

I love this beautiful old school sailor tattoo ink font by Ryan Splint.

I have a lovely bit of ink on my own ankle in the spirit of the sailor tattoo so I thought it would be fun to find an old fashioned ink font to play with too [don't worry, I don't have an anchor tattoo! It is a lovely swallow drawn by a talented artist from Westside Tattoo].

You can check out all of the other Font Friday guys and gals over at #FrontFriday.

PS. I snuck another of my favourite fonts into this illustration as well!

        Font Friday #4: Sybil Green

        FontFridaySybilGreen

Sybil Green is a monster font I’ve decided. A monster that is just a little bit worried that is!

Imagine being a genius font creator like Ray Larabie. He has also designed one of my other favourite fonts called Pupcat (but more on that one later).

I am really enjoying lots of different colour and texture combinations in my illustrations at the moment and Sybil green was just the right kind of curly/straight combo to inspire a little green creature drawing on a Thursday afternoon.

You can download Sybil Green for free here.

        Thanks Ray!

Font Friday #3: Bodoni at Home

          FontFridayBodoniatHome

Aww! This gorgeous font just made me think of hundreds of sweet messages you could write on a card for a loved one.

Created by Resistenza Studio in Spain (where so many amazing artists come from!), it is just a little snippet of the amazing fonts available from this font house.

You can purchase this font here.

            Font Friday #2: Majordomo

            FontFriday: Majordomo

Nothing says “I love you” like a nice, scrawly font.

I love the intricate nature of Majordomo. It’s beautiful accents and its large loopiness. It’s designer, Jennifer DeAngelis, based it on a vintage font found in an old font book.

I used this font in a recent series I drew and found that for a change, the font itself inspired the work, other than the other way around.

You can find this gorgeous font here.

              Font Friday #1: High Strung

              FontFriday:HighStrung

I was inspired all of last year by these amazing girls that run full time businesses and have a family and still have time to create beautiful blogs that include one of my favourite things – fonts! You can follow them on twitter at #fontfriday.

So this year I wanted to create my own font finding journey too. I am going to marry a whole bunch of my illustrations for you this year with some of my favourite fonts and post them here. I am always dreaming of what my first children’s book will look like and choosing a font will definitely be one of the best parts of the design process.

So here is our first lovely font of the year – High Strung.

I love this one as it has all of those handwritten elements that are popular in design at the moment, without being straight up and down.

You can find this gorgeous font here for free. Yay!
